Trip date: June 9-16, 2021.
This was my second thru-hike of the TRT. On my first TRT hike in 2018, I missed out on much of the views due to wildfire smoke. This time around, I headed out earlier in the summer to avoid getting caught in the middle of fire season. The 2020-2021 winter was the third-driest winter on record, so the snow was not a major issue despite the early date.

Day 6. After a two week break from the trail due to work, it was time to continue the TRT. My cousin flew in from Finland to join me on the second part of the trail. It was his first time to California, and I was sure he’d love the nature.

Day 5. I woke up a few times during the night to rain showers pattering on the tent. This was my last day on trail before I needed to get back to work for two weeks. I ate breakfast in the tent, out of the rain. I then packed up and hit the trail before six.

Day 4. Today was going to be a shorter day as I had two days to get to my car at Kingsbury South trailhead. I was in the middle of the longest dry stretch on the Tahoe Rim Trail, so I filled up on water at the Marlette pump before heading out. My first refill wouldn’t be until Spooner Lake.

Day 3. I woke up to a draft in my tent. I had left the downwind storm doors of my Duplex open for ventilation. The wind had turned around over the night, and they were now instead funneling in the air into my tent.

Day 2. I slept poorly like I usually do when up at altitude for the first night. I woke up at 5:45 and had a quick breakfast while watching the first golden rays of the sun illuminate the forest.
